FINANCIAL ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES

INCOME

The maximum eligible income level is 125% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. See the table below for income amounts for families of varying sizes. We can increase the threshold to 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines for unusual or meritorious cases.

WHAT IS CONSIDERED "INCOME"

Though there are some exceptions, every source of income is to be used in determining eligibility, including:

  • Food stamps
  • Housing vouchers
  • Tax refunds
  • Funds withdrawn from a bank account
  • Gifts
  • Compensation and/or one-time settlements for injuries sustained
  • Any other non-cash benefit

GROUP REPRESENTATION

We may provide legal assistance to a group, corporation or association if it is primarily composed of persons eligible for legal assistance under 45 CFR Part 1611 and it provides information showing that it lacks, and has no practical means of obtaining, funds to retain private counsel.

VERIFICATION OF INCOME

In some cases, we might need to verify an applicant's income, requests for the previous year's income tax returns, bank statements, etc., can be made.
