What to know before you apply Before you apply, it is a good idea to visit www.americorps.gov to learn more about AmeriCorps. Among other things, you can read about AmeriCorps' focus on service and why AmeriCorps positions are not traditional "jobs." We are looking for people who are interested in service, not simply employment. We will review applications as they come in, and will set interviews and make offers for positions to qualified candidates as we encounter them. It is in your best interest to submit your application early, so we do not offer your position to a different person before you apply. Each member receives a biweekly living allowance ($12,100 for 1700 hours of service, plus additional supplemental benefits for certain positions), and is also eligible for benefits including health care coverage. A full time member who successfully completes his or her term of service is eligible for an education award of $5,550. To be an AmeriCorps*State member, you must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident. If you are selected for a position, you will be asked to submit documentation of your identity and citizenship status. You will also be subject to a criminal background check. Any position offered to you will be contingent upon confirmation of your citizenship status and FBI criminal background check. Click on "AmeriCorps Position Announcement" to review the available positions and decide which position(s) and geographic area(s) are of interest to you.
